Mike Shockro, PENN Rider

Michael Shockro is a retired partner in the Los Angeles office of Latham & Watkins.  Mr. Shockro is the founder, and until his retirement in December, 2006, was the chair of Latham & Watkins’ global Technology Transactions Practice Group. He is now a professor in the Department of Molecular and Medical Pharmacology at UCLA.  

Mr. Shockro’s practice focused on high technology issues and on the corporate and commercial questions faced by clients dealing with those issues.  A substantial portion of his practice was devoted to outsourcing, licensing, development and strategic alliance relationships for clients dealing with information system challenges.  He is a frequent lecturer before such forums as the Gartner Group’s Best Practices Forum on Outsourcing Management, the National Conference and Research Group, California Continuing Education of the Bar, Southwestern Legal Foundation, New York Law Journal seminars, the American Bar Association, The Practicing Law Institute, and ALI-ABA.  His articles have appeared in various law journals and other publications.  Since Chambers and Partners began ranking attorneys in the U.S., Mr. Shockro has been recognized as one of the leading technology and outsourcing lawyers in this country.  In its 2006 USA Directory, Chambers & Partners selected Mr. Shockro’s Technology Transactions Practice Group as the top tier practice in the State of California in information technology and information technology outsourcing, and Mr. Shockro was recognized as the Senior Statesman in that practice in the State of California. 

Mr. Shockro has been appointed to the Business Advisory Board for the Governor of Zhejiang Province, PRC. He is a teacher of the graduate-level class, “The Business of Science: Exploring Entrepreneurship,” at the UCLA School of Medicine. Mr. Shockro serves as a member of the advisory board of RAND Corporation’s Center for Asia Pacific Policy.  Mr. Shockro has been a member of the Executive Committee of the CalTech/MIT Enterprise Forum, which provides a broad range of services and networking opportunities to emerging technology-based companies in Southern California. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Pasadena Symphony Association, and is the legal advisor to the Association. He and his beautiful wife, Deb, live in Malibu, California.
